Pilot is a social trip planner that brings everything travelers need to discover, plan, book and relive trips with friends in one place. The brand goal is to position Pilot as a unique and authentic brand from it’s competitors in the travel industry.

PILOT’S BRAND BLUEPRINT
Prior to joining, the team had a clear blueprint for the brand. Nostalgic, authentic, vibrant and optimistic were some keywords that described Pilot. People should feel determined, eager, and a sense of belonging after reading the blog, or looking at the website. Throughout the project I would revisit the brand blueprint to ensure our design decisions were aligned with the brand vision.
Pilot’s brand character is the Alluring Explorer. Similar brands that match this personality are Tens, Halfdays, and Lonely Planet. These were also the top brands that stood out to Pilot users.

PHOTOS
People resonate and connect with photographs. Users were drawn to diverse photos of landscapes, food, culture, and groups of friends. Photos tell stories and spark feelings of nostalgia and excitement for travel.
The collage of images were used to run user tests with different people. Some great feedback from the photos were: “I feel like I could be friends with them” and “It makes me want to be there!”.

INSIGHT DRIVEN DESIGN
I worked with the team to gather feedback through user testing. Insights from our research impacted key decisions made for the brand and website. This project strengthened Pilot’s visual identity through storytelling and influenced the design of the app interface and blog.
